Source: Peloton

New Leadership with a McKinsey Edge: Peloton names McKinsey alum Peter Stern as CEO, banking on his strategic chops from Ford and Apple to drive a much-needed turnaround starting January 2025

A Tech + Fitness Powerhouse: Stern brings 20+ years in tech and subscription services, launching Apple Fitness+ and scaling digital platforms – plus, he’s a longtime Peloton fan since 2016

Streamlined Focus Ahead: Following McKinsey’s 2022 cost review, Peloton aims for a leaner, stronger operation, with Stern set to re-energize the brand and reshape its path forward

Another high profile executive position filled by a McKinsey alum.

Peloton just tapped McKinsey alum Peter Stern as its new CEO, starting January 1, 2025, with hopes he’ll steer the fitness giant back on track. Stern’s resume is packed with big names and impressive wins: he’s currently President of Ford Integrated Services, where he leads subscription services, and previously spent six years at Apple, where he helped launch Apple Fitness+ and managed Apple TV+, iCloud, and other key services. A longtime Peloton user, Stern’s been with the brand since 2016, which should resonate with its loyal member base. Peloton’s board is betting his experience scaling tech-driven platforms and a strategic vision make him the right fit to lead the brand’s next chapter.

Stern also brings some serious academic chops. He earned his JD from Yale Law School and holds a bachelor’s in Music and English from Harvard. Early in his career, Stern spent over five years at McKinsey, where he honed his skills in strategy and innovation. This leadership shakeup comes after Peloton hired McKinsey in 2022 to streamline its cost structure, underscoring the company’s push for a more focused, efficient approach. Expect Stern’s deep experience with subscription businesses and his passion for health and wellness to add fresh energy to Peloton’s lineup and help set a new direction as the brand works to reshape its future.
